An engineered board is comprised of a solid hardwood top layer of 6 or 4 mm. It has a base of cross-layered birch plywood. We press the top layer and base together under high pressure, which delivers a completely stable hardwood floor.

It is also important to recognise that engineered hardwood is a much more sustainable approach to flooring. Regardless of which floor you have, a wood floor is only as good as its wear layer. Once the tongue is exposed, a floor officially needs to be removed. Engineered construction allows us to utilize highly prized slow-growth trees where it counts most at the wear layer above the tongue, and use fast-growth trees for the substrate.

No. we can mill both, and would say that engineered is better due to it’s superior performance. Both will have the same look and feel once installed, same lifespan and solid feel underfoot. Engineered planks however offer much greater stability that a solid board. Solid boards tend to contract and show gaps in winter when indoor heating is on. Your engineered board will not.

It makes sense for a hardwood floor to be engineered when a space is not perfectly climate controlled all year round. In our experience. We have come across very few such spaces.

Due to its size and weight, all orders will be delivered via a 3rd party haulage company to the kerbside only and as such there will need to be plenty of labor on-site to help unload the vehicle on the day of delivery. All deliveries (National / International) will have a delivery fee to cover the transportation costs.

Kitchens are one of the most common rooms to install our wood flooring. This is because of the versatile styling, durability, enhanced comfort and natural warmth which wood exudes when compared to other floor covering options.

There are two important considerations when you are installing wood floors in a kitchen. The quality of the wood and the quality of the finish you use. A higher quality wood is going to be more durable and resilient. Which is important in a busy kitchen. The quality of the finish will allow for easy clean and touch up over the years.

We would always advise the kitchen. The wood floor should be one of the last items to be installed, to prevent other tradesmen coming and damaging your new boards. Similarly with kitchens- when installing can damage your floor. If you do decide kitchen first- ensure that you speak with the kitchen company about taking appropriate care with your wood floor.

This depends on so many variables within the building itself. For example, how porous the screed is, the temperature and humidity within the home. Also if there is a good airflow in the room. Please allow one day per mm of screed for the first 50mm and greater drying time for thickness above 50mm. typically it can take 1-2.4 day per mm.

If under time constraint there are liquid dpm, which allows you to install the wood floors almost straight away.

Yes. The wood goes through a natural oxidising process with sunlight as is the case with all woods, regardless where sourced. In most cases the change is quite subtle, and stabilises after the first 3-6 months.

Woods with colour pigment finish has the least change. As the pigment in the oils prevent the UV rays completely meeting the wood.

As a rule of thumb, darker finishes will tone down whilst paler floors will tone up. Heat treated boards will have a little more reaction compared to other woods.

No. The complete process is absolutely simple. Provided you use the correct care products, your floor will look great all year round, and will get better with age.

A floor of course as a walked on surface does take more abuse than most surfaces. So with our wood floors, you just broom and soap once or twice per month.
